Overview

Center for Creative Leadership needed a repeatable way to prepare leadership reports. The objective was to support report production while retaining checks around the source data, generated analysis, and decision to distribute the output.

I built an agentic reporting workflow that begins with report inputs and requests in SharePoint. A data-validation layer precedes AI drafting, and an analysis-validation layer follows it. A language-model endpoint supports the drafting step, with input validation and analysis validation handled as distinct stages.

The validated report then enters an Outlook approval workflow. Team leads receive the approval request and provide a decision, and only approved reports proceed to the relevant teams. This keeps report generation separate from release authorization.

Usage figures are internally reported. Reporting periods and user definitions remain unconfirmed.

Challenge

Automating report preparation needed to preserve validation and the human decision to release the result.

  • Input validation

Source data needed a validation stage before drafting.

  • Analysis validation

Generated reports and analysis needed a separate check after drafting.

  • Approval authority

Team leads needed to decide whether a report should be distributed.

  • Connected delivery

The workflow needed to carry the report from SharePoint inputs through Outlook approval to the relevant teams.

Solution

I separated intake, drafting, validation, and approval into an ordered reporting workflow.

  • SharePoint intake

Receive source data and report requests through SharePoint.

  • Data validation

Route inputs through the data-validation layer before drafting.

  • AI report drafting

Use a language-model endpoint to support report and analysis generation.

  • Analysis validation

Pass generated output through a distinct analysis-validation layer.

  • Outlook approval

Route the report and approval request to team leads and receive their decision.

  • Approval-gated distribution

Send only approved reports to the relevant teams.

Drafting does not authorize distribution

The workflow separates the model’s drafting role from the team lead’s approval role. Data and analysis validation support report preparation, while Outlook carries the approval request and decision. A report proceeds to recipients only after approval, making the human release decision an explicit part of the process.

Impact

Reported usage shows recurring AI-supported leadership-report production with validation and human approval retained in the workflow.

  • Reported adoption

    1,100 users.

  • Reported activity

Approximately 40 leadership reports per week.

  • Implemented capability

SharePoint intake, data validation, AI drafting, analysis validation, and Outlook-based approval and distribution.
